The game

Rolande is a simple game about living a simple life.

Created for the 2026 GMTK with the theme "Countdown”, this game starts at the very end of Rolande's life. In her last moments, she decides to look back at the full life she lived, and brings you back to her childhood.

Explore the memories of Rolande, born in France in 1928. Discover her life, dreams and loved ones as you re-live all the moments that made her who she is, and as the years slowly count down towards her end.

Dedicated to everyone’s Rolande.

How to play

Each of Rolande's memories is a different mini-game, so the controls change depending on the scene. You may need to:

  • Type on your keyboard
  • Use your space bar or arrow keys
  • Click and drag with your mouse
  • Scroll with your mouse wheel (or your arrow keys)
  • Or interact in other simple ways

Some scenes will guide you, and some others will require a bit of exploration. Don't hesitate to take tour time, try all the controls and find out how you can unlock the next memory.

As this game has been made in only 4 days, you may encounter some bugs or unexpected issues. We’re truly sorry if this happens to you. However, if you have a problem with a memory scene interaction, refreshing the page and starting a new game will usually resolve the issue!

That was a very pleasant journey! Thank you!
A quick question: Was Rolande a real person?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to play it <3
The full story is not based on a real person, but the game idea and topics were heavily inspired by one of our grandmothers, named Rolande too :)
