Development Update #1 - New Monsters and more!

After a week on Kickstarter and almost 100 backers, I wanted to take a dive in the development of the campaign and the most recent content I have added to the game. Seeing the support for the game, I decided to bring some more stuff I hadn’t planned on integrating.

But before anything, you should check out the Kickstarter!

Now back to the game :) It’s been almost 2 years that Forward landed on Itch.io and there is still over 200 players a day. It’s only logical for me to have worked on expanding the original concept to make a full game.

The latest update to the game focused on two important aspects: increasing the monster variety and adding new SFX. The SFX will be hard to show in this devlog so I’ll focus on the monsters!

Before the update, not including Bosses, there were 23 monsters in-game. With this new update, I have added ten new monsters to break down the repetitiveness of dungeons. I will most likely add more again but I wished to do this incrementally.

Below are two of these new cards:

Next step for the monsters will be to include “buffs” and “powers” to them, in order to differentiate them more. For now, they vary in strength but do not have any other differentiation.

Another way to offer variety, was to increase the number of mini-stories available. These will pop up at the start of each level and add some depth to the game. I’ve included one of these below but the game will have roughly 130 of these by launch!

As for the SFX, Leandre has developed a whole new layer of sounds to accompany the different steps of the game. I am actually so impressed with these! I might share some of these new tracks on here sometime :)

For more updates on the game, you can follow the Kickstarter and my Twitter!

PS: If anyone has already released a game on Itch, I would love to chat! I want to figure out the challenges it represents.

Christophe
